ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Your oral health is our priority.

At Porteous and Burke Family Dentistry oral cancer screening is part of your routine examination performed by your dentist and hygienist to look for signs of cancer or precancerous areas in your mouth. We also look at the skin on your face, neck, ears for suspicious lesions. Your clinician will notify you of any abnormal findings and may recommend additional testing if indicated.

The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify cancer as early as possible, that way it is more likely to be curable.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we get a lot of sunshine! Faces and ears are common places to develop skin cancer. If you notice a suspicious lesion, be sure to schedule an appointment with us or your dermatologist. We recommend everyone see a dermatologist periodically to check for cancerous and precancerous lesions.

Please remember to protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, SPF lip balm, and protective clothing.
